Since the beginning of time, there has been a need and a constant search for solutions to health problems from which humanity has suffered. Humans have looked into nature and extracted medicinal chemicals from plants to be used as treatments but there are still many diseases without cure.

Yet Allah has guided us with his holy word. The humans have looked into themselves and reached the conclusion that they started from a single cell, called a stem cell, which can divide to form all cells of a human body. Accordingly humans started to investigate the possibility of using these cells to cure chronic diseases. After a long search, stem cells were found to have different capabilities depending on their stage of development. Some stem cells have the capacity to form a complete human body and others have more limited capabilities. Dr Abdullah Al Dahmash, in the Anatomy Department at King Saud University, leading a group of scientists, has shown great interest in stem cell research and has managed, with Allah’s blessing and the support of King Abdul Aziz city for Science and Technology, to establish the first unit for Stem Cell research in the Middle East, and in a very short time has made significant progress.
